As a kid, I never liked competing.

But I know so many people who love competing. Competition is what drives them.

I don’t like competing, because competing is a zero-sum game. There is a winner and there is a loser.

Say cricket, for example.

But what about the game of “Catch catch” that a Dad plays with his son?

Is there a winner and a loser?

Unless, you are a jerk, and you want your son to lose… the answer is No.

Both are the winners.

Similarly, when you are teaching someone, who is the winner? The answer is Both.

We have to be self-aware about what kind of games we like. Do we like competition, or do we like to matter?

There is a famous story about Tesla and Volkswagen.

Volkswagen has always wanted to compete.

Elon Musk, on the other hand, wants to matter. He doesn’t care about the competition. His mission is “to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy”.

Zero-sum games are not fun for me. Competition is not fun for me.

Which type of games do you like?
